Simple Hummus Recipe with a difference
Simple hummus recipe
If you already know how to grow sprouts, here is a quick, easy (and awesome) hummus recipe using your sprouted garbanzo beans or lentils! Your garbanzo beans would have begun to sprout and once the tails are half an inch long, they are ready for you to eat! There is nothing wrong with letting them grow longer and in the end it will come down to your own personal preference for taste. Some people believe the sprouts are sweeter when they are smaller and you will find what you like with a bit of experimentation.
The hummus recipe and directions are as follows:
- Place at least 2 cups of sprouted garbanzo beans in a food processor and puree until smooth
- Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
- One chopped onion
- A diced bell pepper
- Some freshly ground black pepper
*Optional - your favorite herbal seasoning to taste
You can serve the hummus in many dfferent ways; as a spread for sandwiches or toast or as a dip with corn chips or flaxseed crackers. Take this hummus to a potluck and just watch how quickly it disappears….
You can of course make more than just this hummus recipe with your sprouted beans. They can be lightly steamed and used instead of refried beans in nachos, burritos, tacos, or any other food that usually includes refried beans. Sprouted lentils can be turned into a low temperature lentil soup with just a few slices of celery, carrot, and seasonings.
Growing sprouts to use for your hummus recipe is simple (if you use the right sprouter and technique), and so is preparing them! Average preparation time is less than half that of regular meals. Happy sprouting!
